Science findings in the journal Nature Communications Create Price Diamonds So Cheap?

Temuan Sains Ini Bikin Harga Berlian Jadi Murah?

BALTIMORE - A new study shows that diamonds are not as special as previously thought. However, it does not mean the price of diamonds will be inexpensive.

In the journal Nature Communications, the researchers from Johns Hopkins University say that the formation of diamonds are "deep in the bowels of the earth."

Do not imagine that big diamonds, because according to the researchers needed a microscope to see the diamond that comes from the earth, which is only a few microns in size only.

Prior to this study, scientists thought that diamonds are formed through one of two ways, namely through the oxidation of methane or via chemical reduction of carbon dioxide in the fluid moves, the way it requires special circumstances that rarely happens.

This study suggests a way more simple diamond formation involving reaction of acidic water on the rocks in the earth.

"The look, the more diamonds are found on the types of different stones," said the study author, Dimitri Sverjensky, a geochemist at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA.

"I think everyone agrees that the diamond formation can be found in a wide variety of environments."

So although these studies will not produce diamonds were abundant, but allow the creation of a deeper understanding of fluid movement in the bowels of the earth. This will allow us to better understand the role of carbon in the life cycle.

"Liquids are the primary interface between the surface and the earth," said Sverjensky. "That is why it is important to understand it."
