Robot role and Technology Advancement For Industry

Peran Robot dan Kemajuan Teknologi Bagi Industri
Robotics in the industry has actually been around a long time, starting around the beginning of the 19th century. Slowly but surely, the robot finally become a mainstay for replacing the role that could not be done human.

The first known robot built in 1937, is programmed to construct the wooden beams. This industrial robot was created with the aim to speed up the process at the plant, improve plant productivity.

Over time, the technology grew more advanced, are also increasingly sophisticated robotics applications and advanced. Ranging from simply selecting and putting, until the process of assembling and welding.

Factories are automated means implementing various control systems that manage the equipment and machinery. The goal of automation is to operate the plant more efficiently, productively, and produces an output that has a higher quality.

Installing robots in factories to help auto parts in the production line. Jobs are automatically completed in a shorter time.

Because the robot is not only moving fast and consistent pace, but is also capable of functioning outside working hours to meet production deadlines.

"The mistake could have occurred with the manual work can be minimized, thereby ensuring a higher quality," said Shermine Gotfredsen, General Manager of Universal Robots Asia Pacific, Tuesday (10/27/2015).

Creating Jobs

The latest trend in industrial robot is the same as when the rise of computers in the 1980s. Although computers to automate tasks that are normally the responsibility of the secretary, this does not mean that the work of the secretary threatened.

Instead, the computer is a tool used by the secretary to complete their tasks more productively. As it is also an industrial robot is a tool that can be used to help factory workers on the production line.

Given the benefits that can be generated from robots, they also will help the plant to create jobs. A report in 2013 by Metra Martech has shown that industrial robots is forecast to create between 900,000 and 1.5 million jobs from 2012 through 2016.

For example, companies that feel the benefits become increasingly competitive company as a direct result due to wearing robot, also tends to employ more workers in the future to support the expansion of their production.

Robots not only create jobs, but also makes the workplace more attractive. Industrial robot can be set to help workers in hazardous work in the factory, such as the presence of hazardous chemicals or heavy objects.

"This not only helps reduce the risk of accidents, but also improve mental health and motivation of workers," said Gotfredsen.

Lately, the food and beverage industry has been affected by the decline in export demand and the depreciation of the rupiah. As a consequence, manufacturers face increased operating costs because they are highly dependent on imported materials such as sugar, milk, and soy beans.

"To face this challenge, it is important for 6,000 companies manufacturing food and beverages in Indonesia to consider adopting robotics solutions," said Gotfredsen.

Productivity and Efficiency

Productivity and efficiency in a plant can be improved when the industrial robot is used to perform functions on a production line, such as packaging and palletizing, or picking and placing.

"For example, on a production line of dairy products, the robot is useful to remove four packages of cream cheese at a time of belt conveyor and move it into a plastic tray," said Gotfredsen.

Given the magnitude of the volume of production, improve efficiency at the end of the line will contribute to reduce downtime, while optimizing productivity means it can meet the greater demand.

With the latest robots which has an intuitive interface making it easy to be programmed and lightweight body, the manufacturing will enjoy the flexibility of production.

It is ideal in the middle of the saturation in the food and beverage industry with the increasing diversity of products, shorter product cycles, and variations in packaging more diverse. Companies can learn how to program and use robots to automate production lines.

When the robot is integrated well into the process or packaging of food and beverage product lines, operations can be further optimized to meet a wide variety of product lines.

Industrial robots claimed will play a key role in helping to minimize the cost of production and at the same time remain competitive with reduced downtime.

"In this way, manufacturing in Indonesia could face a weakening export demand and increased production costs that affect the business performance of food and beverage industry," said Gotfredsen.
