Disney Develop Prototype SmartWatch Can Recognize Objects Touched

Take advantage of AdSense technology to detect and analyze electromagnetic signals

Smartwatch functions which we know will be a completely different example of this latest technology can be realized in the mainstream. Developed by Disney Research Lab - yes, you read that right - a technology called EMSense allows smartwatch to recognize the name of the object you touch.

The secret lies in an electromagnetic signal. Naturally the conductive nature of the human body, so it can drain the electromagnetic signal originating from a variety of objects around us. Furthermore, Disney Research team developed a sensor for capturing and analyzing the electromagnetic signals, with a frequency range between 1 to 28.8 MHz.

As a result, a prototype artificial smartwatch Disney Research is able to recognize the name of the object that is touched by the user, ranging from door handles, drill, pot until the laptop though. Then, smartwatch will run automatically according to the application in an object context.

So for example if you open the door of your office space, smartwatch will display the to-do list that must be completed on the same day. Its function is similar to the geo-location feature that already exists in our smartphones now, but here the GPS sensor does not need to work to recognize the presence of users.

In the video description below, you can see the potential of this EMSense technology in a variety of contexts. Another example is when you are in the kitchen. EMSense sensor will recognize unusual patterns of activity that we do, from opening the fridge to pick up groceries, and prepare a pot to boil something.

Further, when the sensor detects you hold the stove knob, instantly smartwatch also will display the application timer so you can set the time to cook quickly.

So far EMSense is a new technology in the form of a prototype, and most likely will not be penetrated smartwatch on the market in the near future. Even so, if only Disney can develop it, why manufacturers smartwatch not?
