Scientists Find Harmful Immune Bacteria Antibiotics
CARDIFF - The World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global action should be done immediately after the Chinese scientists found the bacteria are resistant to antibiotics most powerful though.
Liz Tayler of WHO expressed concern if bacteria, which is found in humans and animals, can switch easily between species.
He said, this bacterium has been found also in Malaysia and could spread globally.
These bacteria reportedly resistant to antibiotics colistin, which is usually used after other antibiotics are not effective. Scientists discovered a new mutation, called MRC-1 gene, which makes bacteria resistant to colistin.
Immune never happened before, the difference this time is that mutation developing such a way that could spread easily to other bacteria.
According to experts, the implication of this is very large because it causes common infections, it would be difficult to treat.
"If the MRC-1 spread globally, and these genes are genes adapt to other antibiotics, and this is inevitable, we probably will reach a time when antibiotics are useless," Professor Timothy Walsh of the University of Cardiff, UK.
"If the patient is terminally ill, for example infected with E. coli bacteria, then there's nothing we can do to heal," he said.
Currently, the Chinese government to work quickly to address this problem.
