Goodbye, Betamax
Betamax tape format has long been forgotten citizens of the world. Who would have thought, a tough rival VHS format is still being manufactured and marketed in its home country, Japan.
However, future sales of magnetic tape-based storage media is going to be discontinued in the near future. Sony, as KompasTekno summarized from Cnet, on Wednesday (11/11/2015), decided to discontinue production of Betamax began in March 2016.
It is not clear the reason behind the termination. But, apparently, given the already small popularity of media that make Sony should forget that format forever.
"This will be the last shipment of all media Betamax-based memory," writes Sony in its official website.
Betamax itself was introduced in 1975 by Sony. Time attendance one year sooner than VHS developed by competitor Sony, which is the JVC.

Throughout the career of Betamax, Sony claims to have sold 18 million units. Pemutarnya tool itself has stopped sale since 2002.
