CALIFORNIA - Satellite with a box called CubeSats immediately blasted off into space in this year or next year. The tiny satellites have obtained a series of tests before it is launched.
Reported Newscientist, Tuesday (10/13/2015), a new propulsion system that will replace large satellites, CubeSats, has passed laboratory tests. Cube-shaped device is claimed to be a cheaper, simpler, and as the revolution in exploration in space.
Paulo Lozano from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology revealed that small satellite form is an opportunity for student research or countries that lack in their space program.
"We want to offer access to the people who currently do not get access to outer space," said Lozano.
This satellite does not fly alone, but together with other similar satellite that totaled 10 satellite units. While in space, the satellite is able to conduct research, ranging from climate modeling to hunt for alien planets.
However, this satellite will work forever in space, which makes it a space junk when it is not used anymore. Nevertheless, the benefits of small satellites claimed greater shape for future exploration missions.
"If small satellites have the ability to move, we can do a lot of things that currently can not be done," he said. It is hoped that the satellite will be launched into Earth orbit by 2016 at the latest.
