Through biopic titled Bridge of Spies, the famous director Steven Spielberg again collaborated with Tom Hanks in a film drama were made based on actual events. Taking the theme of espionage (espionage / spy) during the Cold War (Cold War), Tom Hanks became a central role to portray a character named James B. Donovan, a legal expert or a lawyer who works in an insurance company.
For the umpteenth time, Steven Spielberg re-use Tom Hanks for the lead role in a film he was working on. Previously they had worked together in the film The Terminal (2004) and Saving Private Ryan (1998).
James B. Donovan (Tom Hanks) who is a lawyer who is well respected because of ever resolving cases fairly large. At one point, the United States government captures a man named Rudolf Abel (played by Mark Rylance) alleged Russian spy. Because during the Cold War period (1950s), the two countries, the United States and Russia also steal another chance to dig as deeply as possible the information related to the strength of the enemy with the help of an espionage agent.
Arrest Rudolf Abel has become one of the points where James B. Donovan's life changed drastically, both in his personal life, and family. Because, he was appointed as one lawyer to accompany Abel in the trial. It is required by the United States government as a form of imaging them against the force of law prevailing in the country at that time. The situation is further complicated when what the government expected to Donovan being turned away. He was at that time appointed "only" as a companion Abel, began to support and asked for a reduction in the penalty that may be acceptable to spy on the Russians.
This makes not only himself, but also his family became hated and threatened by the entire population in the United States. "Every person deserve a defense, every person matters," that phrase spoken to his wife as a form of explanation why he insisted to save Rudolf Abel.
By the time the trial began to heat, the US government was secretly plotting espionage using the U-2 aircraft. The plane was reportedly able to fly at very high altitudes up to 70,000 feet and is claimed can not be touched by any missiles. Unfortunately, their plan failed and the aircraft was successfully shot down. The pilot of the plane, Francis Gary Powers (Austin Stowell) was arrested by the Russian government.
Each side knows these events want information that has been obtained by the two spies that they muster, namely Rudolf Abel (Russia) and also Gary Powers (USA). For that middle path that must be done by the government is a prisoner exchange. James B. Donovan, who is also the lawyer of Abel became deputy to fly to East Berlin and completing negotiations. But if it can be that simple? Send someone from the enemy to enter the conflict-torn country, it is tantamount to suicide.Overall this is a film that is made very well, both in terms of the cast and the storyline is given. The story goes pretty slow, but when it did the audience is made should not, even can not lose focus because every second of the film is very meaningful. Bridge of Spies
